APSC Syllabus: What to read for General Studies GS-1 Paper (Lucent IAS)

  1. Indian culture will cover the salient aspects of Art Forms, Literature and Architecture from ancient to modern times. (Read: NCERT, Nitin Singhania)
  2. Modern Indian history from about the middle of the eighteenth century until the present significant events, personalities, issues. (Read: Shekhar Bandopadhyay, Bipan Chandra Book)
  3. The Freedom Struggle – its various stages and important contributors /contributions from different parts of the country. (Read: Shekhar Bandopadhyay, Bipin Chandra Book)
  4. Post-independence consolidation and reorganization within the country. (Read: Class12 of NCERT and Politics in India Since Independence)
  5. History of the world will include events from 18th century such as industrial revolution, world wars, redrawal of national boundaries, colonization, decolonization, political philosophies like communism, capitalism, socialism etc.- their forms and effect on the society.   7. Diversity of India (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  8. Role of women and women’s organization (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  9. Population and associated issues (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  10. Poverty and developmental issues (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT & Economy NCERT)
  11. Urbanization, their problems and their remedies (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  12. Effects of globalization on India (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  13. Social empowerment, communalism, regionalism & secularism. (Read: Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT)
  14. Salient features of world’s physical geography (Read: NCERT 11/12 and Certificate Physical Geography by G C LEONG)
  15. Distribution of key natural resources across the world (including South Asia and the Indian subcontinent); factors responsible for the location of primary, secondary, and tertiary sector industries in various parts of the world (including India) (Read: Class 12: People and Economy AND Certificate Physical Geography by G C LEONG)
  16. Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcanic activity, cyclone etc., geographical features and their location- changes in critical geographical features (including water-bodies and ice-caps) and in flora and fauna and the effects of such changes. (Read: CLASS 12, People and Economy and Certificate Physical Geography by G C LEONG)

Important Note for APSC Syllabus :

For APSC Examination in GS-1 Paper, there can be questions that are only specific for Assam (Assam Culture, Assam History and Assam Geography). Please visit the articles to see the previous year Questions under each topic that were specific to Assam. There topics are also to be studied under GS-5 Assam-centric Paper for APSC CCE Examination.
